Monogramming Mrs.

Hey Annabel!

I just found your blog and love it. I am engaged and registering for china. I have picked a pattern but am adding an accent salad plate with my monogram.

Is it appropriate to put only my married monogram or should I list mine and my husband’s initials? Can’t wait to hear your thoughts!

Hi B, congratulations on your engagement! It sounds like you’ve registered for some lovely things.
For the sake of discussion, let’s suppose that Barbara Brown is about to marry Hubby Smith.
The classic way to approach this task is to use the bride’s new initials. In this scenario, your salad plates would read BSB.
These days, some brides prefer to incorporate both names. In that case, it would be BSH.
Both methods of monogramming are acceptable, and it’s really up to you. Personally, I’d opt for the more traditional method, but I’m a fussy etiquette blogger!
You should choose whatever fits your style as a couple. Good luck with the wedding, and enjoy this special time!
Graciously yours,
