Let’s say you’re in a sticky social situation, like a bad date or an interminable dinner. Do you:
A) Endure it politely (but decline any future invitations)
B) Feign a headache or an early meeting, then sprint for the door
C) Use a service like Rescu.me to stage a personal or business emergency
From an etiquette point of view, your phone should never be at the table in the first place. Still, it’s intriguing that simply texting SMS5 to a particular number can get you out the door in a matter of minutes.
Personally, I’d stay long enough not to be rude, then make a graceful exit. I just don’t have the acting chops to pull of an extended ruse! (And if I did, I’d probably make something up on the spot rather than enlist a third party.)
This reminds me a little bit of slydial, the service that guarantees you can call someone and skip straight to voicemail.
What do you think? Would you text under the table for a restaurant rescue, or is this too devious for your taste?
